  • Dr. Mazie Parkmond, Head of School

    Mazie was born and raised in Columbia, SC, and is the mom of two children. Both children attend a Montessori Middle School. Mazie's background in Montessori Education spans many years. She completed student teaching in a Montessori classroom and graduated with a BA in Early Childhood Education with an emphasis in Primary Montessori education from Lander University in Greenwood, SC. She began Montessori certification with MEPI (Montessori Educational Programs International) while in college, and finished with AMS (American Montessori Society) certification in 2002. Mazie began teaching as a Primary Montessori Teacher at Brockman Montessori School in 2002, and taught 3-6 year old children (Children's House) until 2018. She was hired as a Montessori Curriculum Resource Teacher/ Consultant at the same school in 2018, and thus began her work on the Leadership/ Administration Team. Mazie has a Master’s Degree in Divergent Learning from Columbia College in Columbia, SC and earned a Ph.D.  in Educational Leadership in 2015 from Nova Southeastern University in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. 

  • Colleen Steele, Assistant Head of School

    Ms. Steele’s background is in business administration and retail management. For years, she volunteered with non-profit organizations such as Home the Homeless, Inc. and the Universal Living Wage, as a coordinator for events and outreach and media spokesperson. Eight years ago, she felt called to early childhood education because of her deep love and passion to walk alongside children as they learn and grow. Ms. Steele has taught in both traditional and Montessori classrooms. She was a Lead Guide and Mentor Guide at Guidepost Montessori at Prosperity for three years, before stepping into an administrative role in March of 2020. In her free time, Ms. Steele loves camping, working out, gardening, volunteering with her church community, and time with friends and family. She currently serves as a Lay Counselor at her church.

  • Jamie Russell, Administrative Assistant

    Ms. Russell earned her Bachelor's degree in Educational Studies from Belmont Abbey College. She also holds her Early Childhood Education certification from Gaston College.  Ms. Russell started her teaching career 4 years ago in a traditional child care facility in Belmont, North Carolina but fell in love with the Montessori Method while receiving her degree.  Ms. Russell has worked at Guidepost Montessori at Prosperity for a year and four months before stepping into an administrative role. In her free time, Ms. Russell loves to read and spending time with her family.

  • Wendy Coria, Lead Guide Nido

     I grew up in Los Angeles, California and moved to Palmdale, California. I am Mexican-American and speak Spanish fluently. I worked at a public school from grades pre-K to 8th grade, for 7 1/2 years. I moved to Charlotte, NC in August 2019. I started to work in Guidepost Montessori in October 2019 as an assistant guide in Spanish Bilingual Nido. I became the Lead in August 2020 in Spanish Bilingual Nido.

  • Sharmice Alspaugh, Assistant Nido Guide

    I earned a bachelor's degree in Child Development from Appalachian State University. I started teaching 4 years ago in a traditional school in Charlotte, NC. I have worked with many ages but I learned to love working with younger children. In my free time I love spending time with family and friends and traveling.

    I have been working with children for 24 years. On July,10 2008 I was Awarded the “Women Of Distinction Award” from New York State Assembly man Thomas W. ALfano. I was given the award for my exemplary service to their community and my educational service to the students at their schools.

              I currently hold the Lead position in Nido 4 at Guide Post Montessori at Prosperity. I have been working at Guidepost for almost 4 years and have loved all the children I have worked with.

  • Meghana Baral, Assistant Nido Guide

    I have earned my bachelor’s degree In child psychology. Currently pursuing early childhood education from CPCC.I started my  career 7 years ago as a pre-k teacher. I do enjoy what I do.

    In general, I am caring and responsible. I am a great team player and gets along well with any team. I have been recognized several times throughout my 7 years of tenor working in different organizations. In my free time I  enjoy cooking and reading books.

  • Lourdes Aguilar, Lead Spanish Immersion Toddler Guide

    Mrs. Aguilar  is pursuing a bachelors degree in French with a concentration in English from the National Autonomous University of Honduras. Lourdes has experience tutoring which led to her interest to work in a school setting. Lourdes resides in Charlotte, NC with her husband and two kids. In her free time she enjoys spending time with her family, being outdoors, and traveling.

  • Lynn Breidenstein, Lead Toddler Guide

    Ms.Breidenstein holds a Montessori Infant and Toddler certification from the  American Montessori Society.  Ms. Breidenstein started her teaching career 15 years ago in a Montessori school in Charlotte, North Carolina and fell in love with the Montessori Method when she discovered Montessori for her own child.  In her free time, Ms.Breidenstein loves reading and spending time with her family.

  • Alex Corrado, Assistant Toddler Guide

    Ms. Alex has been with Guidepost for almost two years! Most recently, she completed her lead guide training and is a part of our Prepared Montessori Program. She has more than ten years’ experience working with children under six years old. Ms. Alex has worked for several daycares and after-school programs, nannied for several families and has been lead supervisor for a mobile group babysitting service called Go Banannies Company, which provided childcare for soldiers while they had relationship strengthening sessions. Her long-term goals are to be AMI certified and to lead the toddler or children's house community. She is so excited to be a part of the Prosperity campus!

    Ms. Francy Logan attended the Technological University of Pereira (Universidad Tecnologica de Pereira) from 2001 to 2007. Ms. Francy completed her Bachelor of Science in Early Childhood Education.  She has five years experience working with toddlers.

  • Kevin Kelly, Assistant Children's House Guide

    My name is Kevin Kelly. I’m originally from Washington, DC and fairly new to the Charlotte area. During my free time I enjoy spending time with my family and hiking. I’ve been working in Montessori for 7 years. I look forward to bringing my knowledge, care and love to Guidepost Montessori School.

  • Kristy Tejeda, Assistant Children's House Guide

    Kristy’s Montessori career began in 2015 in New York.  Her love, experience and passion for working with children started in 2012 with Elementary children through youth in her church and after school programs.  She graduated with a Associates Degree in liberal arts. Kristy has lived in New York all her life up until late 2016 when she and her family moved to North Carolina. Kristy returned to the Montessori school in 2017 and continues to excel in the Montessori environment.

  • Heather Thompson, Lead Children's House Guide

    Heather is was born and grew up in Zimbabwe. She earned a Bachelor of Theology degree from The Bulawayo Bible College. She holds an Association Montessori Internationale Diploma for the Primary level from the Atlanta Montessori Institute 1998.  She also has a Positive Parenting Diploma from The Centre for Excellence and is currently studying for Cognitive Development Therapy and Hand Reflexology diplomas. 

    Heather has worked with children in varied capacities as; child nurse for abused and abandoned children 0 - 5 years, Live - in "Housemother" for physically challenged children 0 - 16 years and was a nanny to three children in South Africa for 10 years. 

    She worked as a Primary guide in Decatur Georgia for 17 years before making the move to North Carolina. 

    Heather enjoys reading, foreign movies, Sci-Fi, travel, arts, fabric crafts, antiquing, sewing, and baking. She shares a house with her Yorkie-poo - Chewbacca.

  • Heather Gentry, Assistant Guide - Children's House

    Ms. Gentry earned a Bachelor's degree in Psychology, with a multidisciplinary concentration, at Appalachian University. She has a passion for children and has been working with them for many years. Ms. Gentry started homeschooling in 2015 and has worked in an elementary school since 2016. Ms. Gentry moved to Concord to continue pursuing her passion for teaching children.  In her free time, she enjoys spending time with her family, friends, and dog, Gus.

  • Jothi Gunasekaren, Lead Children's House Guide

    I am from southern part of India. I worked as a medical coder in a medical field Business Process Outsourcing concern.  Later worked as Physician assistant for a Diabetologist after completing my Bachelor of Science with a major in Microbiology and Master degree in Biomedical Science with a major in Endocrinology from University of Madras, India.  I admired the Montessori education method during my daughter’s journey in the Montessori environment.  So, I decided and pursued the Montessori training and earned certification from Indian Montessori Training Center.  Soon after the course completion I happened to relocate to the United States, North Carolina, Charlotte with my family. 

    This is my first year at Guidepost Montessori Prosperity campus as a Lead Guide.  Having experience in working with the children at Lake Norman campus.  I love working with children, I am excited to be with them and help them best to be themselves in the journey of Montessori. 

  • Mildrey Mendoza, Lead Spanish Immersion Children's House Guide

    Soy Mildrey Mendoza-Mayorga, nacida en Colombia y con residencia en los Estados Unidos.  Soy comunicadora social-periodista con un máster en Educación y Desarrollo Social y una especialización en Comunicación Educación. He trabajado en el campo de educación y en comunicación de la ciencia por 20 años.  Realicé un curso en el CPCC en Educación de la Primera Infancia y he trabajado en este campo con niños y niñas de 2, 3 y 4 años de edad. En mi tiempo libre juego fútbol 5 y monto bicicleta con mi esposo y dos de mis tres hijas, Lucía y Raquel.  Con mi hija Mariana bailo Salsa.

    I am Mildrey Mendoza-Mayorga, I was born in Colombia and I am  residing in the United States. I am a social-journalist communicator with a master's degree in Education and Social Development and a specialization in Communication Education. I have worked in the field of education and science communication for 20 years. I took a course at the CPCC in Early Childhood Education and I have worked in this field with 2, 3 and 4 years old children. In my free time I play soccer 5 and ride bicycle with my husband and my two daughters, Lucia and Raquel. With my daughter Mariana I dance Salsa.

  • Carolina Méndez, Lead Spanish Immersion Children's House Guide

    Ms. Méndez studied psychology in Colombia, she earned her bachelor's degree from La Sabana University in 2011 and she also holds a Montessori Primary certification from The Montessori Institute of San Diego.  Ms. Méndez started her teaching career 12 years ago as a private teacher and later in a traditional school in Chia, Colombia.  After several years of teaching, she fell in love with the Montessori method after being in an actual environment and since then she fills her life and knowledge with Montessori philosophy.  In her free time, she loves spending time with her husband, son, and pets! They love outdoor activities, doing puzzles, and reading books.

  • Janine Bryant, Lower Elementary School Lead Guide

    Mrs. Bryant has a bachelor's degree in Elementary Education from UNC Charlotte as well as an AMS Montessori Elementary I Credential.  She has been a lead Lower Elementary Montessori teacher for over twenty years in private and public school settings.  She also have 4 years experience as a preschool and Lower Elementary Montessori assistant.  Mrs. Bryant considers her years as a Montessori educator a tremendous blessing to her both professionally and personally, the seeds and fruits of which she continues to be eager to share.  She considers it a true joy and honor to be a Montessori educator!  When not at school, she enjoys spending time with her husband, daughter, and cat.  She also enjoys reading, singing, playing piano, writing, and learning sign language.

  • Marsha Browning, Upper Elementary School Lead Guide

    Mrs. Browning has an Associate's Degree in Science as well as NC Early Childhood Credentials 1 & 2 from Gaston College in Dallas, NC.  Mrs. Browning has also completed the Early Childhood Administration 1 & 2 course from Central Piedmont Community College in Charlotte, NC.  She began her early childhood career 19 years ago and has been a part of the Guidepost Montessori family since 2017.  Mrs. Browning is also enrolled in the Elementary 1 & 2 Certification program with The Prepared Montessorian and will graduate in the Spring of 2021.  In her free time, Mrs. Browning enjoys being a musician and an artist.  She also loves spending time outdoors with her husband and 12 year old pitbull, Roxy.

  • Lori Anderson, Assistant Guide Elementary

    Ms. Anderson earned a Bachelor's degree in Psychology from the University of Michigan. She also holds a Montessori Primary certification from the Houston Montessori Center. Ms. Anderson has worked in Montessori classrooms for 30 years with children ages 2-10. Her passion is guiding children toward reading fluency.  In her free time she enjoys interior design, gardening, cooking and spending time with her family.

  • Mallorie Smithwick, Assistant Elementary Guide

    Ms. Mallorie received a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education (with an English as a Second Language minor) from Grand Canyon University and a Master of Elementary Education in Curriculum and Instruction (emphasis Language and Literacy) from Arizona State University. During college, Ms. Mallorie worked more than 1,000 hours as a respite and habilitation provider for two children with special needs (ages 2 and 13). After college, she began a full-time teaching career at a Title I public school, teaching first- and second-grade English Language Learners for five years . After discovering Montessori and taking time off to be at home with her children, she knew she couldn't return to mainstream education.  She is now pursuing her Montessori Elementary credentials with The Prepared Montessorian.  In her free time, Ms. Mallorie enjoys reading, hiking, camping, and all things outdoors with her husband and three children.
