why guidepost?

Guidepost Montessori at Montclair is located north of the community, off Waterway and Cardinal Drive and just minutes from Highway 234. We are currently transitioning an existing school in Montclair into our authentic Guidepost Montessori program by Spring 2020. At the heart of our school is our belief that children thrive when given freedom and responsibility in Montessori environments specifically prepared for them. Welcome to the Guidepost community!

The Montessori Approach

The Montessori method of education offers a knowledge-rich environment, through a child-led model. Children learn joyfully, through working with carefully sequenced, hands-on materials. Your child’s enthusiastic exploration naturally leads to a solid foundation and advanced academics.

Guidepost families tend to be friendly and welcoming folks, eager to make connections and form strong bonds. We think the education of our students is stronger when we can serve as a hub for such relationships, and we do all we can to foster a strong community in our area, with plenty of fun events and opportunities to meet and mingle.

We believe that an important part of our role is to serve as a support system for your family. We try to be here when you need us, with late pick-up hours and minimal school closures. And because the Montessori approach works best when manifested in a community of like minds, we hold regular campus events and get-togethers.

My kids have developed into capable and compassionate people. The school feels like a community, a family…their guides know their individual tastes and attitudes and cater to that. I love that the program emphasizes practical life (things like learning to get dressed by yourself), as well as the ‘grace and courtesy’ lessons when it comes to sharing. Aaira’s Guidepost Montessori school is a friendly and uplifting environment. The teachers and administration are hardworking and dedicated. I like the three-hour work cycle in Children’s House, and the flexible ‘extended day’ class schedule. For Aaira, that means lots of Montessori in a single day, every day!

Our Guidepost school is full of happy kids, and the staff and teachers are friendly and flexible. Amal loves it! We love the attention paid to each individual child, and how the Montessori approach works to make them more independent.

We love the teachers at Guidepost! The administrators are organized and friendly, and the school provides daily tracking emails and frequent photos of Olivia working in the classroom. In Olivia’s program, we like the beautiful Montessori materials and the Montessori approach in general — we love seeing Olivia learn and grow!

I love the staff. They treat everyone as family, and they love my daughter as if she was their own. She truly loves all the guides here. I love the amazing staff, who help take care of the children as a community. The kids’ teachers treat each child as an individual and pay close attention to their needs and readiness for new materials and work. For Jacob, the Nido room facilitates independence, confidence in the self, and respect for the child’s own body and space.

Everyone at Guidepost is there to help and foster the growth of our son. It’s an amazing family to be a part of…we can talk to them about anything and feel that our opinion is valued. They truly care about the growth and education of our son. Aydin’s development has been absolutely amazing…the balance between discovering life skills and just being a toddler boy is perfect. Aydin has learned skills that far exceed his peers outside of Guidepost. He is mommy and daddy’s best little helper!

Guidepost’s teachers and administration work really hard to create an environment that is warm and inclusive to all children. The Guidepost community is amazing. The families we have met are incredibly kind and have welcomed our family. Guidepost Montessori promotes autonomy and independence, while still meeting the individual child’s needs. Guidepost has worked with our family to accommodate our daughter’s needs and help her grow.

Guidepost’s staff see each individual child as an individual and truly strive to bring out Maxwell’s true potential — they promote independence, and we’ve seen Maxwell just thrive since he started at age 3. Guidepost's administration and teachers are kind, caring and understanding — they always take the time to listen to parents and ensure all our needs are met in regard to our child. We also love the low class size, the amazing tools and opportunities in the classroom, and how informed they keep us — we love the constant communication.

Our programs

We serve children from 12 weeks old through primary/kindergarten ages. Our Montessori classrooms foster independence, nurturing each child's practical life skills, emotional and social development, and foundational knowledge. Our classrooms provide a knowledge-rich environment designed for child-led exploration.
