(MCKINNEY, TX, JUL 2020) – Guidepost Montessori – a global network of Montessori schools that opened one of its first campuses on Eldorado four years ago – has expanded with a second McKinney campus located two miles from its original site, called Guidepost Montessori at Craig Ranch. The new campus, undergoing renovations at 6800 Bountiful Grove Drive, is the fifth Guidepost Montessori school to settle in North Dallas. The network runs two other campuses in Frisco and one in Flower Mound. The McKinney expansion comes in direct response to growing interest in Guidepost’s offerings, with the original Eldorado campus nearing capacity.
The Craig Ranch location wasn’t set to open until Fall 2020, but the campus opened early as part of the network’s Spring launch of Emergency Care for Essential Workers – when more than 40 Guidepost schools across the country rapidly mobilized to provide significantly discounted, safe childcare for essential workers. This program served about 500 front-line workers across the nation, including nearly 100 families in Texas.
“Moving up our timeline in order to extend Emergency Care was a meaningful way for us to open our doors, allowing us to serve those in our community who needed us most during such an unprecedented time with this pandemic,” said Dominique Staten, Head of School for Guidepost Montessori at Craig Ranch and former Assistant Head of School at the Eldorado campus. “Collectively as a network, Emergency Care gave us concrete experience in how to safely adapt our physical campuses as well as innovate new programming to truly meet each family where they are as we head into the next academic year. Our Texas schools have shifted from Emergency-only care to open enrollment – though open enrollment looks different this year as we maintain the latest adaptations to uncompromisingly prioritize the health and safety of our children, staff and families.”
Some of these adaptations will look familiar to its previous Emergency Care for Essential Workers program, with reduced movement on-site between the staff and classroom communities, smaller classroom sizes, and daily health checks of both staff and children. The learning environment for children remains otherwise normalized, with classrooms beautifully prepared according to the century-old Montessori method – a structured, child-led approach with valuable mixed-age classrooms that promote social skills and independence. While Guidepost Montessori runs programming through elementary in North Texas, Craig Ranch will open with early childhood programming for children up to age 6. The campus will feature three infant rooms, two toddler rooms, and three Children’s House rooms for preschoolers and kindergartners. There will also be a designated gym space to serve as a gross motor area.
“Childcare is an essential service, and we are honored to do everything we can during such a challenging year to safely bridge our engaged parent and school community with more McKinney families,” added Staten. “Not only can we welcome children back to school with limited spots on our year-round campus, but we are also heading into the Fall with a suite of new community programs that can fulfill a wide range of needs that parents today are juggling.”
New programs include a virtual parent-to-educator service, called Family Framework, where parents can access a range of tools from DIY resources to 1:1 private parent consultations on leveraging the early childhood Montessori system at home. Enrollment in Guidepost Montessori Virtual School is also available for children aged 5-12, designed by the network’s Montessori program experts. The network is also expanding its one-year-old Guidepost at Home program, where families of children under the age of 6 can match up with an in-home Montessori nanny or educator.
