How is the Guidepost Montessori approach different from conventional education?

At Guidepost, we join with parents on their mission to help their child grow and live well. Together, we design an education to empower each child to build the knowledge, skills, and confidence she needs to craft an independent, flourishing life.

Though there are many differences between the conventional approach and Guidepost, here are some of the most important:

Conventional Education vs Guidepost Montessori
What is the Guidepost Mission?

At Guidepost, our mission is to support each child in achieving her own independence. To do this, we help her gain the knowledge, build the skills, and craft the personal character she needs to flourish. Above all, our goal is to cultivate joy—in the pursuit of knowledge, in effort applied to work worth doing, in the achievements of herself and others, and in taking the steps to author her own life.

Learn about the key milestones we support—from infancy through high school.

Read more about why we educate for independence, and how we support independence for infants, toddlers, preschoolers, and elementary-age children.

What are the outcomes of your programs?

Montessori education is known world-wide for having positive impacts on both academics and social and emotional skills.

At Guidepost Montessori, when we design an environment to meet the developmental needs and interests of children alongside personalized care and support, the child can learn advanced skills at an accelerated pace.

Our students, for example, regularly learn to read by the time they’re 4-years-old and can perform all four math operations with 4-digit numbers by the end of their Kindergarten year.

The language and math skills of our kindergartners are on a par with what children in conventional programs learn in 3rd grade or beyond! What’s more, our students learn advanced academics joyfully—while simultaneously developing deep focus, self-discipline, and positive social skills.

Do your programs include Kindergarten?

Yes! The third year of our Children’s House program, designed for 3- to 6-year-olds, is the capstone kindergarten year. In this year, the child has been well-prepared to experience an explosion of literacy, learn advanced math concepts, and use her hard-won ability to focus, problem-solve, and persist through challenges to then make advanced gains across the curriculum. Children who continue with Guidepost through Kindergarten are often well-ahead of their peers when they enter 1st grade.

Following elementary, students continue on to our Montessori middle and high school, the Academy of Thought & Industry: a school that combines a classical liberal arts emphasis on history and great books, and a Montessori emphasis on independence and agency.

How does Guidepost partner with parents?

At Guidepost, we want to make the best education the best for children and parents. This is why we provide year-round, extended-day programming at no extra cost, enabling consistent and uninterrupted access to the care and developmental support parents expect. We invite you into your child’s world—with daily photo and video updates, regular milestone meetings, and parent-child events that showcase your child’s progress. We work to understand your unique context and needs, so that we can provide support for milestones at home as well as at school.

In everything we do, we strive to cultivate joy as you watch your child grow!

Control of Error: A Child’s Path to Independence

In a Montessori classroom, mistakes aren’t failures—they’re opportunities for learning. This three-year-old’s work with carrot cutting reveals just how powerful control of error can be.

✨ He set up his table but noticed something was missing—the protection mat. He corrected it.
✨ He tried picking up peels with his hands, realized it wasn’t efficient, and fetched a sweeper.
✨ He rolled up the mat, but it wouldn’t fit in the ring. He tried again. And again. Flattened it. Changed his approach. Rolled it tightly—and finally succeeded.

Each challenge was met with observation, hypothesis, and problem-solving—essential life skills in action. No adult corrections, no interruptions, just pure perseverance and self-correction.

And he’s only three.

Another Fine Moment in Our Montessori Classroom

We witnessed something truly remarkable — a 4-year-old child, blindfolded, carefully matching cylinders to their sockets while moving between her work mat on the floor and the table where her tray of cylinders was set. Impressive!

With her eyes covered, she relied entirely on her heightened senses, navigating her surroundings with focus and determination. Step by step, she felt her way to success — a powerful reminder of how capable children are when given the freedom to explore and trust in their abilities.

Their potential is endless — and it’s amazing to see it unfold right before our eyes.

In our Montessori environment, the work mat is more than just a place for materials—it’s a symbol of respect and personal space. Children learn to unroll their mats carefully, defining their workspace and creating a sense of order. One of the first grace and courtesy lessons we teach is how to walk around a mat instead of stepping over it. This simple yet powerful practice helps children develop spatial awareness, mindfulness, and respect for their peers’ work. It’s a beautiful way to see courtesy in action every day! Have you noticed your child bringing this practice home? Meet Miso & Moo-Moo, our own M&Ms on campus! These little fluffballs have become such a special part of our community, bringing joy, snuggles, and important life lessons to our students. Caring for Miso and Moo-Moo isn’t just fun—it’s a hands-on way for children to grow responsibility, kindness, and empathy. They take turns feeding them, making sure their water is fresh, and keeping their space clean. Through these small but meaningful acts of care, they’re learning what it means to be gentle, patient, and mindful of others’ needs. There’s something magical about watching a child quietly whisper to a guinea pig, carefully offer a piece of lettuce, or proudly announce, “I fed them all by myself today!” These little moments shape big hearts. Miso and Moo-Moo may be tiny, but they’re teaching some of the most important lessons of all—how to nurture, how to be responsible, and how to love with kindness. #MontessoriLife #SchoolPets #GuineaPigLove #MontessoriMagic #LearningWithLove #KindnessInAction #LittleHandsBigHearts #GrowingResponsibility #MontessoriMoments #CompassionInTheClassroom #MisoAndMooMoo #MontessoriAnimals#guidepostmontessori #cedarparktx

Even the youngest learners can develop patience and respect for others! In our Montessori classroom, toddlers practice waiting for their turn—even for something as simple as handwashing. They aren’t just following a rule; they are learning grace and courtesy in action. By watching their peers and teachers, they see that waiting is a way to show kindness and respect. These small moments—taking turns with a favorite material, waiting in line, or listening to a friend—build lifelong social skills. And besides, it’s just too cute to see these little ones practicing patience—something even adults struggle with sometimes! #MontessoriMagic #GraceAndCourtesy #LittleLessonsBigImpact #cedarparktx #guidepostmontessori

Last Saturday, we came together as a community to celebrate One World One Love—a beautiful reminder that love knows no borders. As we celebrate Valentine’s Day today, we reflect on the unity, joy, and connection shared during this special event.   Our children took on a journey across the globe—visiting India to experience henna and spices, playing the accordion in Russia, creating art, solving lantern riddles in China, enjoying delicious food from Mexico and the Philippines, indulging in Scottish desserts and Brazilian cheese puffs, and even speaking Turkish with our families from Germany. With each stop, they collected visa stamps in their passports, making their travels even more exciting!   This unforgettable experience was made possible by the incredible effort of our parents, who poured their hearts into creating vibrant, immersive booths. Your dedication and love brought cultures to life for our children, and we are so grateful. As Dr. Maria Montessori beautifully said, ‘Establishing lasting peace is the work of education; all politics can do is keep us out of war.’ Through experiences like this, we nurture understanding, respect, and love—building a more united world, one child at a time. 💕 #CommunityMatters #Montessori #MontessoriEducation #MontessoriSchool #guidepost#OneWorldOneLove #CulturalDiversity#LoveKnowsNoBorders#CommunityMatters#MulticulturalKids

At Guidepost Montessori at Cypress Creek, I saw just how incredible the Montessori method can be when done right. The school has provided an exceptional learning environment for my daughter, with a strong focus on individualized education and fostering independence. The Montessori philosophy is clearly evident in every aspect of the school's approach, from the thoughtfully prepared classrooms to the well-structured activities that promote creativity, critical thinking, and self-discipline. Her teachers, Mrs. Ebelia and her assistant Alex, have been amazing. They are both professional, caring, and highly qualified, creating a warm and supportive atmosphere for the students. I have seen remarkable growth in my child's confidence and ability to tackle challenges on her own, and I attribute a lot of that progress to the nurturing environment they've created. One of the standout aspects of the school is the abundance of activities they offer to bring the community together. Whether it's events for families, parent workshops, or school celebrations, Guidepost Montessori does an incredible job of fostering a strong sense of connection and engagement between parents, teachers, and students. Additionally, the diversity of my daughter’s classmates is remarkable. She is surrounded by children from various backgrounds, which enriches her learning experience and broadens her understanding of the world around her. The communication between the school and parents is outstanding—I'm always kept informed about my child's progress and any updates regarding the school. The leadership at Guidepost Montessori is also worth noting. They are approachable, proactive, and genuinely care about the development and well-being of the students. It's clear that they are dedicated to maintaining the highest standards in education. Overall, I couldn’t be happier with our choice to enroll at Guidepost Montessori at Cypress Creek. It has truly been a wonderful experience, and I would highly recommend it to any parents looking for a nurturing, innovative, and effective learning environment for their child.

Deciding on a school for our little one was a rollercoaster of emotions, filled with uncertainty and parental jitters. But our experience with Guidepost Montessori at Cypress Creek was like finding a beacon of warmth and reassurance in the midst of it all. Walking through the doors of Guidepost at Cypress Creek, we were greeted with genuine smiles and a welcoming atmosphere. The onboarding process wasn't just about paperwork; it was about getting to know our family, understanding our parental beliefs, educational needs and easing our anxieties every step of the way. The school tour wasn't just a routine walkthrough; it was a chance to see our child's potential new world through her eyes. Everybody we came across through the tour was extremely nice and helpful. Being able to peek into the classrooms and witness the learning in action was incredibly comforting. It wasn't about fancy presentations; it was about real-life learning, recognizing children’s potentials, fostering their independence and joy. But what really stole our hearts was the invitation to an internal school event. The Head of School, Ms. Lauren personally greeted us and our daughter, meeting the guides, Ms. Ebelia and Ms. Alex and mingling with other parents made us feel like we were already part of a caring community. Seeing the joy on the faces of other parents reassured us that we were in the right place. Knowing where we were leaving our precious one and who would be watching over her meant everything to us. Guidepost Montessori at Cypress Creek isn't just a school; it's a home away from home, filled with love and laughter. We couldn't be happier with our choice, and we wholeheartedly recommend Guidepost Montessori at Cypress Creek to any parent looking for that perfect blend of education and genuine care.

I am writing this review to express my deep appreciation and positive experience with Guidepost Montessori that my children have been fortunate enough to attend. The school has been exceptional in providing an enriching, stimulating, and nurturing environment for my children. A critical factor in this positive experience has been the dedicated and talented staff. Ms. Ebelia has been remarkable in her role. Her passion for education and the children is evident in everything she does. Her approach to teaching is an excellent blend of patience, understanding, and encouragement, which not only makes my children excited to learn but also nurtures their growth and development. Ms. Deanna is another gem in the school. Her ability to engage children and make learning fun and interactive is truly impressive. She has a natural talent for connecting with the students and fostering a love for learning. Her dedication to the children's educational growth and personal development is truly admirable. Lastly, I cannot go without mentioning the fantastic leadership of Ms. Lauren, the head of school. Her vision for the school, combined with her unwavering commitment to the students, is truly inspiring. She consistently ensures that the school maintains its high standards and that every child receives an enriching learning experience. I am sincerely grateful for the positive impact Guidepost Montessori has had on my children. It is a place where they are nurtured to be independent, curious, and responsible learners. I highly recommend this school to any parent looking for an exceptional educational foundation for their child.

My son has been going to Guidepost Montessori, Cypress Creek for almost 2 years now. He joined Guidepost when he was less than 2 years old. Due to Covid, he was always with us at home and leaving him in another place without us, was extremely hard for all of us. However, I couldn't have chosen a better place and people than Guidepost Montessori. The moment I spoke with Ms. Ebelia, I knew she would be able to give the same love and care to my little one. She helped us through the separation anxiety in the most gentle and loving manner. My son started wanting to go to the daycare just for her. She and her team taught my son several skills including changing clothes and potty training. Ms. Lauren, who is the Principle of the school has been exceptional too. She makes sure she communicates every time something goes wrong or if there is an illness going around or anything that caregivers might want to know. I love the dedication she has for Guidepost and how she makes sure caregivers are well informed about both the good and the bad. My son's current guide is Ms. Carissa and she is equally loving and caring. A few more things - 1. They offer good variety of snacks everyday 2. They have interesting activities like fests. They got a cow once and showed the kids how they get milk. 3. They have splash days every Friday in Summer. 4. My son learnt how to clean floors, windows, plates. He learnt how to cut cucumber, break eggs, slice apples. He learnt days of the week, can count at least up to 30, can kind of tell the names of the months and is starting to make sounds of letters. He is only 3.5 years. Most importantly, he loves to go to Guidepost in Cypress Creek everyday.

We have had our 3-year-old enrolled at Guidepost Cypress Creek for over a year and feel strongly that it is the perfect fit for our family. Some examples to highlight the impact we have seen include... Communication: * Extensive weekly emails regarding all current and upcoming events * Head of School in-person discussions daily with parents * Written notes and feedback * Parent - Teacher/Guide Conferences with very detailed expectations and outlines of success Care for children: * I have seen all staff wipe noses, clean up accidents, gently guide and respectfully redirect behavior, and just show genuine care for so many Guidepost children (not just mine). * All kids can have a bad day (just like adults) and never once have I witnessed a staff member address an upset child with anything more than respect and kindness (even amid a vivacious tantrum) Creative learning opportunities: * My child is not the typical "outdoorsy" kid and used to be very hesitant outside, but in the last 6 months especially he has been drawn to the outdoors and has really opened up his willingness to actively play outside. He talks about larva and butterflies, feeding birds, watering and gardening, the life cycles of insects and animals, and so many wonderful things, all of which he is learning and absorbing from his time at Guidepost. * The classroom has such amazing work opportunities that explore so many different areas and help give such a well rounded Montessori education (with a lot of fun worked in to it). The Guides thoughtfully change out the work MONTHLY and the kids genuinely look forward to going in and getting started each day. * The beauty of such attentive Guides is that they can see where interest is growing and areas of struggle may be and they can then help the child to really work on both. * There are different extracurricular opportunities that are now available as well like yoga, art class, soccer and more! We are able to try out so many different things thanks to the opportunities offered. Strong staff and leadership: * Without being asked or beckoned, the Head of School, Lauren Horn, once heard me address our Guide and start to ask a few more than normal "drop off" questions and she came speed walking over and stepped into the classroom to assist the Guide so that we could have those extra couple minutes in the hall (without making me feel rushed, or the Guide to feel torn, and still making sure the classroom was moving smoothly) - she just knew and was on it. I was blown away by this. * I have never heard Ms. Lauren speak rudely or with anything other than respect and kindness to the Guides. I have seen her applaud, praise and encourage her team. Also, in looking at the current team, it is obvious that she has fought to have the best Guides possible for this school. We have had some interactions with all Guides in each classroom (and like them all), but specifically Ms. Ebelia, Ms. Olivia, Ms. Deanna, and Ms. Nicole have all taught and led our child in a classroom. * I have been blown away by these amazing teachers. The care and love they show to all the children is unparalleled. I have witnessed such magical moments of true care from each of them (from sitting in a quiet area when my child was overwhelmed - just reading with him and helping him to regulate his emotions, to singing songs to help ease rough transitions, to remembering obscure toddler mentions and actually taking the time to talk with my kid and show him how important his interests are). I can't imagine our children being with any other people than these wonderful Guides. The staff at Guidepost Cypress Creek are truly one in a million and we are so grateful that we get the opportunity to have our children there.

We enrolled our daughter at Cypress Creek originally because a friend recommended their toddler program and could not say enough good things about Ms. Ebelia the lead guide. We were very impressed with her and the way she ran her classroom. You will not find a more caring and dedicated guide to care for your children. When my daughter was in the hospital, she reached out to us many times to show her support. She was always going above and beyond. We were so sad when our daughter had to move out of her class because we loved her so much. There have been some big changes at this school over the last year and all for the better. There has been more of a community feel and that was not always the case for the school as a whole the previous year. The new head of school Ms. Lauren has really done a great job turning things around. She is always there. She is either available up front, busy assisting in one of the classrooms, or planning family events and extended day opportunities. As a parent, it has been nice to be invited to join in on helping support the classroom and be a part of what our children are learning. We get weekly updates from her with all the activities planned and information about what the children are focusing on in the classrooms. There have been some fun playground playdates and even a music event! These have been great to be a part of and have made it so easy to get to know some of the other families. We also really love our daughters’ new teachers in the Children's House. Ms. Deanna is so excited about the lessons she has planned for the kids and is great about sharing these things with the parents. Ms. Nicole is so sweet and great with the kids. You can really tell they both enjoy what they do. The team at Cypress has even gone the extra step at pickup time to make sure our parking lot is safe for the families because of an issue with the middle school parents and traffic it brings to the area. You can really see they all love their jobs and want to do the best for all kids involved. We definitely recommend Cypress Creek Montessori and are excited for all the fun fall learning and activities ahead!

I recently enrolled my 4 year old son to Cypress Creek Montessori School. He is more sensitive suffers from separation anxiety, and the teachers and director have been phenomenal at handling drop off. They are so nurturing and loving, making him more and more comfortable in a short period of time. I can really care that the staff CARES about each student, and the parents. They are committed to accommodating my needs as a parent, and they also offer suggestions for making the transition to a new school as smooth as possible. It's a small school environment, which I love because of the personalized and individual attention they provide. The student teacher ratio wonderful, and I am confident that my son is in good hands.

My son has been at CCMS for the past 5 months and we had an awesome experience. Very disciplined, great staff and good teaching! From the outside it looks like a small school but the kids have space for everything they need to do. Spacious classrooms and playground. Last week, they had Mother's Day celebration and I must say it was sweet! My son loves the school and his teacher Ms Leah. A positive about the school - I didn't see the existing staff leave their jobs in the past 5 months - the school must be doing something right there as compared to some other schools we have been, where there is a high employee/teacher turn over.

My girl has been doing there for a year and I can't recommended enough. She came from a traditional preschool and the Montessori method made her more confident. The school is small and has a loving atmosphere. Always clean and organized too. She knows and likes all the staff, specially Ms Leah, her main teacher. She will be leaving soon for Kindergarten but I think Cypress Creek Montessori School made a great job preparing for this next chapter! Thank you all!
