How is the Guidepost Montessori approach different from conventional education?

At Guidepost, we join with parents on their mission to help their child grow and live well. Together, we design an education to empower each child to build the knowledge, skills, and confidence she needs to craft an independent, flourishing life.

Though there are many differences between the conventional approach and Guidepost, here are some of the most important:

Conventional Education vs Guidepost Montessori
What is the Guidepost Mission?

At Guidepost, our mission is to support each child in achieving her own independence. To do this, we help her gain the knowledge, build the skills, and craft the personal character she needs to flourish. Above all, our goal is to cultivate joy—in the pursuit of knowledge, in effort applied to work worth doing, in the achievements of herself and others, and in taking the steps to author her own life.

What are the outcomes of your programs?

Montessori education is known world-wide for having positive impacts on both academics and social and emotional skills.

At Guidepost Montessori, when we design an environment to meet the developmental needs and interests of children alongside personalized care and support, the child can learn advanced skills at an accelerated pace.

Our students, for example, regularly learn to read by the time they’re 4-years-old and can perform all four math operations with 4-digit numbers by the end of their Kindergarten year.

The language and math skills of our kindergartners are on a par with what children in conventional programs learn in 3rd grade or beyond! What’s more, our students learn advanced academics joyfully—while simultaneously developing deep focus, self-discipline, and positive social skills.

Do your programs include Kindergarten?

Yes! The third year of our Children’s House program, designed for 3- to 6-year-olds, is the capstone kindergarten year. In this year, the child has been well-prepared to experience an explosion of literacy, learn advanced math concepts, and use her hard-won ability to focus, problem-solve, and persist through challenges to then make advanced gains across the curriculum. Children who continue with Guidepost through Kindergarten are often well-ahead of their peers when they enter 1st grade.

Learn more about the next exciting stage: the Guidepost elementary program.

Following elementary, students continue on to our Montessori middle and high school, the Academy of Thought & Industry: a school that combines a classical liberal arts emphasis on history and great books, and a Montessori emphasis on independence and agency.

How does Guidepost partner with parents?

At Guidepost, we want to make the best education the best for children and parents. This is why we provide year-round, extended-day programming at no extra cost, enabling consistent and uninterrupted access to the care and developmental support parents expect. We invite you into your child’s world—with daily photo and video updates, regular milestone meetings, and parent-child events that showcase your child’s progress. We work to understand your unique context and needs, so that we can provide support for milestones at home as well as at school.

In everything we do, we strive to cultivate joy as you watch your child grow!

We have been at the Bee Cave location of Guidepost Montessori for going on 3 years. Throughout these 3 years we have watched the school change, learn, and grow. Everyone that we have had the pleasure of getting to know is just deep down good people. Our oldest has grown and learned so much from both an educational perspective but as a person has learned great communication, kindness, community rules and involvement, and so much more. We are at the very beginning of that journey with our youngest but he’s grown so much over these past few months as well. Anyone debating if Guidepost is the right place for their child, it more than likely is. I couldn’t imagine sending our children anywhere else in the Austin area, and that’s saying a lot since we drive 25+ minutes from Dripping Springs every day to bring our kids here.

My son attended Guidepost Bee Cave for approximately a year. He began in toddler and then moved to Children's House. While at Guidepost Bee Cave, he reached many milestones from potty training, to identifying his numbers and sounds. He had some amazing guides while there, Ms. Angelica and Ms. Ashraf. We transferred to a different Guidepost due to a change in my work location, but I recommend Guidepost Bee Cave.

Guidepost Bee Cave has provided an amazing Montessori education to our two children, ages 3 and 10 months, for the last year. Given our children's ages, we have experience in the Nido, Toddler, and Children's House programs and would highly recommend all three. We have also attended the Westlake Guidepost location and have experience at two other daycares prior due to moving, so we feel we have a good breadth of experience from which to recommend Guidepost Bee Cave. The new head of school, Mike, who took over this summer, is nothing short of amazing. He has a young child himself and has an operational background that really shines in every aspect of quality and consistency at the school. Other reviews mention staff turnover, which I can confidently state is a challenge for every childcare center (certainly for all four we have attended). What makes Guidepost Bee Cave stand out in this area is 1) knowledge transfer about your child's unique needs 2) training of new guides 3) quick action to remediate challenging staff 4) transparent communications. These are all due to Mike's leadership and we have been amazed at the quality care our children receive as a result. The guides care so much about the children and frequently communicate observations through written notes, photos, and verbal check-ins at pickup and dropoff. Even the guides at the school who don't directly oversee our children know our children by name and always speak with them, even if our child is acting shy lol. We particularly appreciate Ms. Mackenzie, Ms. Alyssa, Ms. Jessica, Ms. Ashraf, Ms. Lekha, Ms. Christine, Ms. Debra and Ms. Shanice, but there are really too many wonderful guides to name. I highly recommend this school for anyone wanting to raise confident, independent little people in an environment where practical life skills are taught and "I can do it myself" is a mantra.

After looking at the many options available in the BeeCave/Lakeway area and touring the schools we decided in Guidepost and are glad we did. Day one we met with Ms.Ines (Lead Guide Nido), she is epitome of what every new mom seeks in for when entrusting their whole world. Our 7month old began at Guidepost in March 2023 after being exclusively nursed and was now needing to take a bottle. Ms. Ines made this transition so much easier. She hugged my baby and gave her the love and comfort she needed while I was away. Fast forward to now, my daughter has been taught ASL to go along with her words and is able to tell me when she wants "water", "more", "diaper change", and most importantly has established a routine with a consistent nap from 12-2Pm. My daughter is now 15 months and still greets Ms.Ines with open arms and a big smile every morning. She waves me goodbye and send me kisses, which makes it easier to leave. As a mother this is all you want. A place where your child is loved, and is stimulated everyday helping them to accomplish all those first 18 month milestones. A place your daughter wants to go even on the weekends, a place that she feels safe.

Guidepost Montessori Bee Cave is amazing!! The entire team from the guides (teachers) to the school director, to the aides are so engaged, kind, and supportive. They set a warm atmosphere of inclusion and independence for the children. I can't believe the leaps and bounds in development our child has made there in just 5 months. The Montessori method encourages children's capabilities, independence, and helpful attitude. Would you like your 4 year old to volunteer to make themselves breakfast? Then this is the place for you. I also love the diversity of the staff. It is such a gift for our kids to learn from a team who represents many cultures, languages, and interests. Finally - for you working parents out there - the school takes minimal holidays. I think it is closed 5 days a year. That is incredible! The continuity of amazing care and learning can't be beat. We love Guidepost Montessori Bee Cave and know you will, too.

Guidepost Montessori at Bee Cave has exceeded my expectations as a pre-school for my 3-year old. Everyone at Guidepost is warm, friendly, and genuinely concerned with the development and care of my child. I am amazed that the continued communication and attention to detail given by the Director and Teacher, especially during the Covid-19 protocols. I highly recommend sending your child to Guidepost in Beecave - our daughter is very happy there.

With newborn, preemie twins during COVID, it was an extremely difficult decision to know what the right thing to do would be when I returned back to work. Ultimately I decided to put my 3.5 month old twins in daycare at Guidepost Montessori - I checked out 3 other daycares one the area and decided on this one - I'm so glad I did! The staff know me on a first name basis and pay great attention and care to my babies. With frequent updates, pictures and detailed daily reports, I have piece of mind. I would definitely recommend them.
