How is the Guidepost Montessori approach different from conventional education?

At Guidepost, we join with parents on their mission to help their child grow and live well. Together, we design an education to empower each child to build the knowledge, skills, and confidence she needs to craft an independent, flourishing life.

Though there are many differences between the conventional approach and Guidepost, here are some of the most important:

Conventional Education vs Guidepost Montessori
What is the Guidepost Mission?

At Guidepost, our mission is to support each child in achieving her own independence. To do this, we help her gain the knowledge, build the skills, and craft the personal character she needs to flourish. Above all, our goal is to cultivate joy—in the pursuit of knowledge, in effort applied to work worth doing, in the achievements of herself and others, and in taking the steps to author her own life.

What are the outcomes of your programs?

Montessori education is known world-wide for having positive impacts on both academics and social and emotional skills.

At Guidepost Montessori, when we design an environment to meet the developmental needs and interests of children alongside personalized care and support, the child can learn advanced skills at an accelerated pace.

Our students, for example, regularly learn to read by the time they’re 4-years-old and can perform all four math operations with 4-digit numbers by the end of their Kindergarten year.

The language and math skills of our kindergartners are on a par with what children in conventional programs learn in 3rd grade or beyond! What’s more, our students learn advanced academics joyfully—while simultaneously developing deep focus, self-discipline, and positive social skills.

Do your programs include Kindergarten?

Yes! The third year of our Children’s House program, designed for 3- to 6-year-olds, is the capstone kindergarten year. In this year, the child has been well-prepared to experience an explosion of literacy, learn advanced math concepts, and use her hard-won ability to focus, problem-solve, and persist through challenges to then make advanced gains across the curriculum. Children who continue with Guidepost through Kindergarten are often well-ahead of their peers when they enter 1st grade.

Following elementary, students continue on to our Montessori middle and high school, the Academy of Thought & Industry: a school that combines a classical liberal arts emphasis on history and great books, and a Montessori emphasis on independence and agency.

How does Guidepost partner with parents?

At Guidepost, we want to make the best education the best for children and parents. This is why we provide year-round, extended-day programming at no extra cost, enabling consistent and uninterrupted access to the care and developmental support parents expect. We invite you into your child’s world—with daily photo and video updates, regular milestone meetings, and parent-child events that showcase your child’s progress. We work to understand your unique context and needs, so that we can provide support for milestones at home as well as at school.

In everything we do, we strive to cultivate joy as you watch your child grow!

discover the benefits of our spanish immersion programs.

Children under the age of six absorb language effortlessly, which is why we are pleased to offer bilingual environments. In our Spanish Immersion program, children learn both Spanish and English literacy skills, however, the prevailing language spoken throughout the day is Spanish. The overall emphasis on Spanish rapidly increases fluency, as children feel naturally compelled to communicate with their Spanish-speaking guides. Learn more about our Spanish Immersion program here

Guidepost at Peoria is a lovely campus filled with the most amazing people, who really do care about your children. My daughter has gained so much independence and growth in her time here in Children’s house. She is always so excited to get ready for school and talks about how much she loves her Guides and the new lessons they present to her. It is a bittersweet goodbye as my daughter will be transitioning to kindergarten. Thank you to everyone on this campus for always being so welcoming and kind, you are appreciated!

Guidepost at Peoria will always be so special to me. My two sons (4 & 6) have been going there since they were 3 & 18 months in the Spanish immersion program. Before this school they were only taken care of by family members. But as soon as I met everyone from the front office to their teachers I felt at ease right away. Ms. Maricela and Ms. Rosa are truly amazing guides. I love seeing both their smiling faces every time I drop them off and pick them up. My kids love their both their teachers, friends and even play school at home sometimes. They have learned so much not only academically, but independence and all things the Montessori way. It saddens me they have to leave this year!:(

As a parent deeply invested in my child's education and growth, I can confidently say that Guidepost Montessori Peoria has been an absolute gem in our journey. From the tender toddler years to the blossoming child, every step of the way has been enriched by the dedicated educators and nurturing environment. My daughter's journey at Guidepost Montessori Peoria began with Ms. Lupita and Ms. Maribel, who provided a warm and supportive atmosphere during her toddler era. Their patience, understanding, and commitment to the Montessori principles laid a strong foundation for her educational journey. Transitioning to the Children's House was seamless, thanks to the exceptional guidance of Ms. Maricela and Ms. Rosa. Their expertise in the Montessori method and unwavering dedication to each child's development have truly made a difference. They foster an environment where curiosity is encouraged, independence is celebrated, and a love for learning is instilled. I am immensely grateful to the entire staff for their passion, professionalism, and genuine care for each child's journey. In conclusion, Guidepost Montessori Peoria has exceeded our expectations in every aspect. It's more than just a school; it's a second home where children are empowered to explore, discover, and grow into confident, compassionate individuals. I recommend this school for its incredible environment, dedicated staff, and strong community. My sister, Nancy, as the Young Toddler Lead, showcases the staff's love and commitment. I was very nervous about putting my son into any preschool programs. As a parent, it is very scary to think about your child being with anyone other then you or trusted family. I looked into several different schools in my area and I am so thankful I found Guidepost Montessori at Peoria. My son has done so well in the Children's House program here. He loves his teachers and I feel very comfortable with him being there while I am at work. Highly recommend!!

We love Guidepost and our daughter's teachers/guides at the school. She has been attending since she was 18 months and is currently 4.5 years old and is enrolled in the Spanish Immersion program. I feel like the staff legitimately care about her and her well-being and everyone is very kind and friendly. Once a quarter, they have an event for the families to get together where they have bounce houses, activities, and a DJ and I think these are fun for the kids and to meet other families. We love the Montessori approach which encourages independence and autonomy and self-directed play and love that they have a Spanish Immersion program. We joke that our daughter corrects our Spanish and teaches us new words. All around, we recommend Guidepost withput any reservation.

We have since moved our daughter across town due to a job change, but she was enrolled at Guidepost Montessori from the time she was 18 months until she was over 3 years old. I can't say enough good things about this school under Ms. Shara's leadership. Our daughter learned critical life skills at a young age. She was picking up after herself at the dinner table and cleaning up her toys at 18 months. She also gained the ability to focus on a task to completion. These skills amazed our friends who, like us, didn't think such things possible at so young an age. Learning a second language was very important to my wife and I, and we really wanted our daughter to have that ability from a young age. The Montessori Method was not something we were familiar with, but we are very happy that our daughter was educated at a Montessori School because the skills she developed will serve her for a lifetime. The lead teachers at this school are wonderful. Our daughter had a special connection with Mrs. Veronica, who was her teacher for almost half our daughter's life. Our daughter still talks about "Ms. Vero" as though she were family. Our daughter spent a few months in Ms. Maricela and Ms. Lupita's class, and she was beginning to form the same kind of bond with them that she had established with her previous teachers. The school is immaculately clean, and from what I can tell, they genuinely follow the Montessori Method. I would recommend this school to anyone who may be interested in their child learning Spanish, or being educated the Montessori Way.

I cannot say enough good things about Guidepost Montessori. We have had our daughter enrolled here for about a year after trying out two other childcare facilities previously and we will never look for another place again. Between the amazing staff, the beautiful classrooms and the incredible development I have seen in our daughter since starting here I am overjoyed that we found Guidepost.
