what makes us stand out.

How is the Guidepost Montessori approach different from conventional education?.

At Guidepost, we join with parents on their mission to help their child grow and live well. Together, we design an education to empower each child to build the knowledge, skills, and confidence she needs to craft an independent, flourishing life.

Though there are many differences between the conventional approach and Guidepost, here are some of the most important:

Conventional Education vs Guidepost Montessori
What is the Guidepost Mission?.

At Guidepost, our mission is to support each child in achieving her own independence. To do this, we help her gain the knowledge, build the skills, and craft the personal character she needs to flourish. Above all, our goal is to cultivate joy—in the pursuit of knowledge, in effort applied to work worth doing, in the achievements of herself and others, and in taking the steps to author her own life.

What are the outcomes of your programs?.

Montessori education is known world-wide for having positive impacts on both academics and social and emotional skills.

At Guidepost Montessori, when we design an environment to meet the developmental needs and interests of children alongside personalized care and support, the child can learn advanced skills at an accelerated pace.

Our students, for example, regularly learn to read by the time they’re 4-years-old and can perform all four math operations with 4-digit numbers by the end of their Kindergarten year.

The language and math skills of our kindergartners are on a par with what children in conventional programs learn in 3rd grade or beyond! What’s more, our students learn advanced academics joyfully—while simultaneously developing deep focus, self-discipline, and positive social skills.

Do your programs include Kindergarten?.

Yes! The third year of our Children’s House program, designed for 3- to 6-year-olds, is the capstone kindergarten year. In this year, the child has been well-prepared to experience an explosion of literacy, learn advanced math concepts, and use her hard-won ability to focus, problem-solve, and persist through challenges to then make advanced gains across the curriculum. Children who continue with Guidepost through Kindergarten are often well-ahead of their peers when they enter 1st grade.

Following elementary, students continue on to our Montessori middle and high school, the Academy of Thought & Industry: a school that combines a classical liberal arts emphasis on history and great books, and a Montessori emphasis on independence and agency.

How does Guidepost partner with parents?.

At Guidepost, we want to make the best education the best for children and parents. This is why we provide year-round, extended-day programming at no extra cost, enabling consistent and uninterrupted access to the care and developmental support parents expect. We invite you into your child’s world—with daily photo and video updates, regular milestone meetings, and parent-child events that showcase your child’s progress. We work to understand your unique context and needs, so that we can provide support for milestones at home as well as at school.

In everything we do, we strive to cultivate joy as you watch your child grow!

We transitioned from a smaller Guidepost so we could hopefully grow into their elementary program over time. It's a bustling community! I mostly appreciate the thoughtful written communication from our Guides about the happenings in the classroom each week. It includes lyrics to the songs they sang in class so I can partner and work on articulation at home, recipes to the food they baked, sighting on their daily walks, or the specific books they chose for circle time. I love reviewing it with my children to spark conversations. They've learned so much in their year here.

There are not enough words to express how much our family loves Guidepost Chantilly. We put our then 18 month old there last year. At the time he was barely saying a few words. Within weeks he was talking in short sentences, now we can’t get him to stop talking! The works they plan, and the entire Montessori way has grown my son by leaps and bounds beyond where his older brother was at the same age. I love that they reach real life skills, especially since I now have someone to help clean! :) Every single person from the administration down to the resource staff are all amazing. Our teacher and the toddler lead guide, Miss Maggie has not only been amazing with my son, but has helped me tremendously. As parents, there is no handbook. Maggie, having been trained and having years of experience with this age group has been willing to answer questions, provide me insight and resources, as well as guidance to help my son grow and me to parent him even better! I really just cannot say enough good things about this school! The support, teaching, love and care they provide is beyond measure! If you want your child to grow and learn in an environment that meets them where they’re at and truly takes your individual child’s needs into consideration then this is the place for you!

We are so happy we found Guidepost Montessori in Chantilly when we were ready to move our daughter to daycare! The entire school team makes this school feel like a family. We’ve been so pleased with the level of communication, warmth, and responsiveness from teachers and the administrative team alike. Not to mention the learning our daughter has done has been amazing - she’s gained so much independence with basic life skills (finding and preparing her own snack, using utensils and open cups, keeping things in their designated place, etc), fine motor skills, language, and general grace and courtesy. Also very telling is how thoughtfully they’ve handled supporting the children through the various phases of the COVID 19 pandemic. From providing multiple options (virtual, at-home, essential worker care at school) to meet the different needs of their enrolled families, to such a careful and transparent reopening with enhanced health safety procedures; we didn’t even consider leaving Guidepost because there was always an option there for our comfort level at the time. I love how well they know my daughter and my family, and just observing the interactions at drop off / pick up I know our experience is not unique in this regard. If you’re looking for a school that offers a wonderful child-led curriculum, personalized attention, and a real community feel, I can’t recommend Guidepost enough!

Our two daughters, 2.5 and 4 years old, attend Guidepost Montessori Chantilly. From the first time that I reached out to the Assistant Head of School to find out more about their programs, we felt like part of the Guidepost Family. When we needed help with the Financial Aid process, we had assistance the whole way. Couldn't have been more grateful. Our children have flourished under this Accredited Montessori School with Trained Guides. We could not feel more comfortable that no question seems silly or bothersome by the Guides or Administration. As I said, we truly feel welcome and a member of the Guidepost Family. Also, the way they have handled the COVID-19 pandemic has been incredible. Feeling our children are in safe hands at times like these is paramount and we do at Guidepost. Cannot recommend highly enough! We are so blessed to be here.
