The Guidepost Difference for Elementary

Burnout in the teaching profession is legendary. This unfortunate situation detracts would-be educators and affects retention of quality faculty.

Guidepost Montessori takes this seriously and has a different approach. We support our guides to ensure they are finding success in the classroom and personal fulfillment. Our deep investment in our guides naturally results in lower turnover and a higher quality experience for our children and families. Doing so also attracts top teaching talent to our school network.

What do parents want from their child’s teacher? Among many desirable qualities, they probably want their child’s teacher to be well-trained and enthusiastic about teaching. They likely want them to have access to support, to be attentive to the details of the classroom and curriculum, to be responsive to parent concerns and questions, to connect with their child, and to be sensitive to their child’s needs. Guidepost wants that, too! We prize those aspects and provide the tools for our guides to nurture those traits and achieve those aims.

The Prepared Montessorian, Guidepost’s professional development arm, offers initial training to aspiring guides, continued learning opportunities for experienced guides, and a rich repository of resources and thoughtful content to support core learning across the curriculum.

Elementary Montessori guides — like their counterparts for younger children — tend to love what they do, have a thirst for knowledge and a passion for sharing it with the wide-open minds of elementary children. At Guidepost, we know it is a job that requires a tremendous amount of patience and an even greater emphasis on content mastery than at previous levels. Not to mention finesse, observational skill and supreme organization! It is demanding to oversee the educational, social and emotional development of so many eager, busy students spanning multiple years and subjects. Fortunately, our guides are not alone. They are scaffolded by the team at The Prepared Montessorian and its incredible resources.

Montessori elementary teacher training is rigorous and comprehensive, but it is just the first step in becoming an elementary guide. At Guidepost, we recognize that guides’ needs change every year with shifting groups of students.

The Prepared Montessorian’s supplementary training is intended to complement the foundation our guides have already received. The focus is on real-world applications. The courses encourage guides to revisit their understanding of the Montessori philosophy and pedagogy to improve their practice, refine their classroom leadership skills, and deepen engagement within their community of children. Many of the professional development sessions are available as video resources that guides can access at a time that is convenient to their busy schedules.

We know at Guidepost that well-supported guides translate to happy, successful children!

Guidepost Montessori provides authentic, child-centered education for children ages 0 to 12. With over 80 campuses across the US and Asia, and at-home and virtual learning programs serving more than 5,000 families worldwide, Guidepost is the world’s largest Montessori network.
